Introduction

This web-based course will introduce you to sustainable forest management concepts and techniques through a series of 8 modules. The modules contain text, images, forest evaluation exercises, quizzes, and links to web resources.

The module is self-paced allowing you to complete each module on your own schedule. The quizzes are self assessment tools to evaluate your comprehension of module topics. The information will be used to evaluate the efficacy of the module materials.

You will learn to collect basic forest data on your land and enter it into forest visualization software. The software creates personalized images, calculates forest statistics, and provides economic information. The software will show you the long-term effects of management decisions on your forest.

By the end of the course you will have accomplished the following learning objectives:

  • understand sustainable forest management concepts and techniques
  • assess whether a timber harvest will provide your desired outcome
  • ability to collect and interpret data from your forest

Before starting the course:

  • review the computer system requirements required for the course,
  • provide general information, and
  • complete a brief pre-survey.
